This book stays with you and makes your heart think and process history a bit. I am Polish, a third generation immigrant and up until this summer I have not read very much about what the Polish people went through during Hitler’s reign. With movies like the Zoo Keeper’s wife and this book, Lilac Girls, it has intrigued me and helped me understand my heritage better as real life stories from the work camps were what the author based her storyline from. Great inspirational read with a hint of forgiveness and healing towards the end. I also liked how the author continued on the storyline in part 2 when she could have easily ended the book on a triumphant note. A must read for this summer!
